PostHeaderIcon Cole Improving: Minors Update 23 July 2013

TaylorColeThe Lansing Lugnut’s Taylor Cole has struggled this season, but seems to be slowly improving, especially in July, given Cole’s  2.52 era for the month. This past week he was even better, earning a 1.64 era over 11 innings, despite winning 1 and losing the other of the two games he pitched. Overall he has a sub-4.00 era and a 5-9 record with 71 strike outs. He must be showing coaches what they want to see because they keep starting him and keeping him in the games—he now is 9th in the league in innings pitched at just over 100, more than his totals in either of his previous two seasons in the Northwest (A short season) league.

Among batters Jaycob Brugman had a strong week, hitting 6 for 19 (.316) while scoring twice and earning a stunning 8 rbis! For the season he is hitting .240 with 18 rbis and a home run. Perhaps this signals that Brugman has become accustomed to the New York-Penn league and will perform at his potential. More amazing is Adam Law, who continues to tear up the Arizona league. Law was 10 for 26 (.385) last week, scoring 6 runs and stealing 6 bags. He now leads the league in both stolen bases and runs scored. And with over 100 at bats, its a little hard to characterize his performance as just a hot streak.

Mitch Maier and Mitch Talbot continue on the DL. Jacob Hannemann returned from the DL and played a couple games in the rookie league before returning to the Boise Hawks (Northwest League – A short season) for a game last week.
