Ellsbury and Red Sox Quieted by Tigers: Majors Post-Season Update 13 October 2013
After a stunning performance in the Red Sox’ division series against the Tampa Bay Rays that left him with a .500 2013 post-season batting average, Jacoby Ellsbury, along with his team mates, have been stopped cold by the Detroit Tigers’ pitching. After a 9 for 18 performance in 4 games against the Rays, Ellsbury is 0 for 6 in two games against the Tigers.
But, thanks in part to Ellsbury working out a walk in the 8th inning (he scored as part of David Ortiz’ grand slam that tied the game), the Red Sox came back to beat Detroit in the bottom of the 9th, and the series is now tied 1-1. The other remaining Mormon player, the Tiger’s Doug Fister, isn’t scheduled to start this series until Wednesday, October 16th.

Roy Halladay has retired. I’d love to see a post breaking down his HoF resume. I think he gets in but he’s certainly not a lock. And with Fister getting traded in a deal widely seen as a big win for Nationals and Ellsbury signing a big contract with his old rival Yankees, there is a lot going on. Winter is always fun.
